1977 Living Room Complete with Asymmetrical Brick Wall Fireplace & Bookshelf

This is NOT a sponsored post.

I believe in using what you have. I believe in a small budget. I believe in challenges. I also believe in things that are short, sweet & to the point, so if you like reading lengthy blogs you're in the wrong place.

So let's get started.

Here is the breakdown:

We used old resale shop furniture we already had. Including free curbside couch, and a wing back chair given to me by my sweet neighbor who was getting ready to throw it out and a pair of green chairs I picked up at a resale shop for $20.

All improvements but the mantle were paint. The curtains are king sized flat sheets from Wal-Mart, cut in half. The mantle is leftover cedar fencing.

Below are the pictures from my inspiration, then the before and after.

Various decor items are mostly garage sale finds (including chandelier) with a few resale, DIY & store clearance items. I was able to score outdoor throw pillows from Lowe's for $3 each during a clearance sale! Pillow covers from Hobby Lobby for $3-$4 each were a nice find as well. The mantle posters were a Hobby Lobby purchase and the poster frames were scored @ Kohl's for $2.80 each on clearance & after coupons! The throw blankets were right around $5 when I bought them from Kohl's during a clearance event. The rug was a Kroger (of all places) clearance buy for $17. We just pieced it together a little at a time while de-cluttering and selling off or donating whatever I couldn't find a place for. That's what you do when you're on a tight budget and a good way to keep things from piling up.

And that's how this room came to be. I hope someone out there enjoyed this. In my next post I'll share my frugal small dinning room update. Thanks for visiting!
